Snowy EscapeOn October 19th, the Sims 4 development team officially announced their newest expansion pack, Snowy Escape, The ice-blue render which accompanied the announcement revealed Sims snowboarding, rock climbing, and sledding to their pixelated hearts’ content. Simmers everywhere embraced the news and buzzed about the pack’s possible contents. A towering tell-tale pagoda in the render’s background suggested an East Asian-inspired world. Indeed, SimGuruGraham later confirmed a new area called Mt. Komorebi. “Komorebi” is a Japanese word with no direct English translation. Loosely, the word describes the way light “escapes” or filters through a tree’s leaves on a sunny day. The reference heavily implies a new Japanese-inspired world. Today, October 20th, the official Sims YouTube channel premiered the first Snowy Escape trailer at 8AM PST/11 AM EST. Create a Sim AssetsThis fresh new expansion comes with a slew of new clothing befitting the snowy theme. Namely, players can expect:
Build/Buy AssetsA few months ago, Simmers participated in an official Sims 4 survey. This survey asked players what they most desired in upcoming packs, and a snowy retreat complete with equally chilly activities topped the list. In addition, players entreated EA to include more diverse, less Eurocentric worlds and build items. Snowy Escape delivers on this promise. Builders will be pleased to receive:
Game PlayIt wouldn’t be an expansion pack without expanding existing game play. Snowy Escape promises the following additions:

Stay safe, stay warm, and happy Simming! Snowy Escape: The BasicsThe official Sims team revealed the newest Sims 4 expansion pack, Snowy Escape, on October 19th, 2020. While the Sims 4 news cycle is generally predictable, involving a steady stream of off-hand hints and guru-generated clues in the weeks before a new expansion release, the days before the newest expansion pack release was eerily, in Pixelade’s words, “air-tight.” There were no light-hearted hints this time, only a near stony silence from the Sim gurus. However, all this changed early October 19th, when the official EA Twitter account broke its silence. The newest pack art reveals not only Sims engaging in such snowy weather activities such as snowboarding and sledding, but also hinted at Asian-inspired architecture. Behind one of the Sims, who points at something in the distance, is a pagoda, the iconic type of building endemic to Chinese, Korean, and Japanese culture! Sim Guru Graham later confirmed that, behind the scenes, the Sims team collaborated with Game Changers James Turner, Deligracy, Lil Simsie, and Simlicy to create this much-anticipated pack. He also said that players will experience Mt. Komorebi, a new world, October 20th at 8AM PT/11AM EST. ReceptionSimmers were quick to drum up excitement for this pack. Earlier this year, the Sims team rolled out a survey which asked players what they desired in future packs. A snowy getaway neared the top of the list alongside more diverse architectural representations. Some Simmers, however, insist that the features of Snowy Escape should have been imbedded in the Seasons pack. However, over all, player reception has been warm. Snowy Escape: What to ExpectA few weeks ago, a few Simmers were quick to notice a brand new, snowy area on Lil Simsie’s screen. After screenshotting, the players informed the rest of the community that the next pack would involve snow. Back then, Simmers were largely wary of this idea and dismissed it as a deep fake.
The official unveiling confirms this accidental leak as truth. So what can we expect from this new pack? Look forward to -New, Asian inspired architecture like pagodas and curved, intricate bridges. -New snow day activities such as snowboarding and sledding -New, cold weather outerwear -New environs which include mountains and mountain tops -New activities which involve mountains such as rock climbing And much more! The Sims 4 team has officially kicked off the spooky Halloween season with a new round of Sims Spark’d!
As usual, Simmers can choose to participate in one of three categories: stylist, builder, or storyteller. This challenge is all about crafting a new creature, “never seen” in the Sims universe before. Simmers must use CAS, build mode, and their own creative storytelling skills to create this creepy creature’s appearance, their abode, or their story. What story will you tell? Sims Mobile VignettesWhile a few of the key ingredients of a house are fairly obvious — bedrooms, a living space, a bathroom, and a kitchen— it can sometimes feel difficult to pin down just what combines to create a /home./
We’ve already discussed the power of clutter, which makes a house feel truly “lived in,” but another component of an authentic-looking home is well-placed vignettes. In literature and film, a vignette is a small, but descriptive story that gives further insight into a character. In interior design, a vignette is a small area of a home that you stack interesting pieces into that please the eye or tell a story. This is often done with shelves, but any part of a home that tells a story, that exists mostly for decorative purposes, can reveal more about the people who live in the home— or in this case— about your Sims. How to create a vignette ————————————- ✔️Consider the season: gather seasonal plants or flowers and place them together on a shelf or in a yard. Felisha offers a great example with her pumpkin patch. ✔️Consider mood: Players can easily set a gloomy or creepy mood with a cluster of gravestones. Felisha does this too in her yard. ✔️Fill space: Empty corners are fabulous places for vignettes; stack bits and bobs on top of accent tables or crates for a farm house look. ShellyBee Sim does this with the Wumples vignette set. ✔️Keep it simple: No need to overcrowd each time! One lone item out of place can a tell a story all its own.
