Halloween in the Sims Mobile arrived well after the holiday had ended. As December approached, Mobile Simmers held their collective breaths, hoping that a little holiday cheer would arrive in good time. Each passing day leaked further into December, and mobile Simmers began to fear that there would be no holiday content for Sims Mobile. Sims Mobile players got their answer on December 10th, the first day of Hanukkah, when the Game Changers dropped a large update which included not only the usual parade of purchasable packs and predictable events, but also a massive quality of life overall that has even the most disenchanted players giddy. Quality of Life UpdatesOn December 14th, the Sims Mobile will undergo a massive overhaul to its base game offerings. Players will enjoy brand new Create-a-Sim items for both male and female Sims, a refreshed starter home for fledgling players, less frequent Surprising Choices, an expanded build/buy mode with new collections available for purchase, culturally diversified items like Afro hairs and headscarves, and an updated Eco Workshop. Players will also have a new way to move items around their households. Instead of long-holding an object, players will now need to double-tap an object to move it, then press a green tick when they have reached a desired location. These are just some of the requested player changes, of course. Improved parties, an increased number of playable Sims, a refreshed Izzy catalog, gender neutral clothing options, balconies, basements, pools and pets remain outstanding items on mobile player wish lists. If this massive holiday overall is any indication of what is to come, players might expect Gurus similar overhauls that fulfill player wishes in the future. Eco Workshop UpdateThe December 14th update will bring changes even to Eco Workshop. Instead of rerunning old events that newer Mobile Simmers missed, Sims Mobile developers are slowly slipping those older items into Eco Workshop. This update will fold the Super Throwdown League event items into the Eco Workshop repertoire. These items include:
Treasure Hunt: Seasons GreetingsOn the heels of "Gamer's Paradise," the last Treasure Hunt event, another Treasure Hunt event will bring seasonal items to the Sims Mobile. Players will dig, scrape, and search for clues in order to earn "relics" and "golden bunnies." These currencies purchase a slew of themed prizes. In this case, the prizes are as follows: REWARDS: -What a Haul Gift Pile -Seasons Greetings Garland -Wicker Dining Chair -Elegant Timber Dining Table -Hanging Gifting Stockings -Pretty in Plaid Dress -Arcadian Log Bed -Very Victorian Rug -Truly Timber Cabinet -Plush Leather Armchair -Tree Trunk Coffee Table -Plush Leather Sofa -Tied and True Holiday tree GRAND PRIZE -Cozy Holiday Fireplace -Rustic Log Staircase -Thick Pony tail These items are everything Mobile Simmers need to create a cozy, inviting space for their any holiday celebration. Sweet Treats: New Year's GalaOn December 28th, Mobile Simmers will get the chance to ring in the near year with style. Sweet Treats: New Year's Gala, offers a treasure trove of unique glittering, glitzy items like drink trays, a shining ball light, Art Deco side tables, a champagne tower, and more. During this event, as with all Sweet Treats events, Simmers will bake, frost, and mix in a reality show-like competition. If a Simmer defeats their rival by bake the best sweet delicacies, then they earn tokens. These tokens, in turn, earn the following slick prizes: REWARDS: Common:
Wumples #45Wumples returns in game on December 29th with items for child Sims. That is, adult Sims will be unable to wear these prized items. In exchange for her ever-growing, often taxing laundry lists of tasks, Wumples offers a snow day jacket for female children and snow boots for male children. In addition, Wumples will host the "Twelve Days of Wumples," a special 12-day event that offers older holiday decor in return for simple tasks. Starting December 16th, when players log in for the day, Wumples will request one easy task such as "check the toilet for escaped gators." After completing that task, the player will receive a holiday item. In this case, after the Sim every crevice of their commode for runaway reptiles, they will receive the "Auld Lang Shine Garland" for their efforts. Purchasable PacksThe holidays with the Sims Mobile wouldn't be the holidays without purchasable packs. This update arrives saddled with a fair few, a hodgepodge of new holiday wear, quaint furniture, and rerun offers, and a brand new sort of Treasure Hunt Boost. Skin tone and Makeup Color Sliders ArriveThe highly-anticipated skin tone update arrived early for both PC and console Sims 4 players today, and it’s been a long time coming. For years, Sims 4’s lack of accurate skin tones, particularly for Sims of color, was a glaring omission that garnered plenty of criticism. Modders like the incredible XMira noticed that not only were the darker-skinned Sims in Sims 4 poorly represented, but even the available custom content skin colors were limited. Xmira was among the first custom content creators to address this issue with rich, realistic skins of her own. The skins, included in her “melanin pack” were both warm and cool, with red, yellow, and blue undertones. This triumph of a creation was downloaded thousands of times by thousands of Simmers, but it was not until the summer of 2020, when American police brutality against people of color reached a fever pitch after the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, that EA stopped turning a blind eye to the issue. They no longer could. Some of the rich skin tones available in Xmira’s “melanin pack.” Happily, on December 7th, players received the base game skin tone update that they deserve. Not have Sims 4 devs added hundreds of new skin tones to the game, but they have also introduced sliders that allow players to fine tune the skin color they choose. The truth is this: not all colors are created equal. A warm pink differs from a “true” pink or a “cooler” pink. In the same manner, people come in these varying hues too. A brown-skinned person might have a rich warm tone, with undertones of red or yellow. Another person may have a “blue” brown, or a “cooler” brown. These hues change the way make-up appears on a certain person’s skin, Sims 4 players can now choose from “warm,” “neutral”, and “cool” skin tones. After choosing a color in one of the hue categories, Simmers can now slide a widget to customize their chosen color’s saturation. If this were not enough, Simmers can also change the saturation, brightness, tint, and darkness of a certain make-up swatch by sliding the new widget to their desired settings. This way, Simmers can create the colors they need that look best on their Sim. Warmer skinned Sims look best in warmer colors, cooler-skinned Sims in cooler colors and so on. A chart showing which makeup colors look best against certain skin colors. These changes will help Simmers everywhere better see themselves in the Sims. And that is no small thing.
