The Sims...What started off as a coping mechanism and a joke to our great leader Will Wright in 2000 has now turned into a world wide phenomenon! With 13 different series and 4 main games The Sims has always changed from game to game. We asked simmers what their favorite Sim Version is and here is what they had to say… “ I'm a Sims 3 kind of gal. The depth of the game. The open world. The content. It has my ideal simulation scenarios and I still play it more than Sims 4.” - Melly aka the author lol “Sims 2 mostly because I spent so much time on the Sims 2 website in my teens and have fond memories of it” - Jessica S “I can't play it anymore unfortunately but it's 3 hands down. I really miss being able to just download stuff off The Exchange. Or the ease of it really. Custom content is too difficult for me.” - Caitlyn A “ Sims 4 since I have a lot of packs. But, if Sims 3 was more stable and I had that level of content then I might play it instead. I miss the character creation part.” - Tosha C “The Sims 3 is a better game but I love cas graphics and build/buy in the Sims 4 so I always come back to it!” - Rebecca R. “Sims 1 is just so quaint and wonderful. I remember the magic of it from when I first started playing. It’s not the same now, going back and playing it, but I still love it the most. I play Sims 4 primarily now but I miss so many of the features from Sims 3.“ - Kate B. “I’m torn because I love them all. If I had to pick just one of them, I think I’d have to go TS2. There’s just a special charm there. The kids are actually cute, and there’s just enough room for chaos, as Juno Birch explores in her videos.” - Sierra E “The open world of Sims 3. If I could find my copy, I'd re-download it in a second. Also the gameplay was so much better. More interactions.” - Cassie S. “Probably an unpopular opinion but I hate the sims 3 it never worked well for me and the sims were so ugly Maybe because I was in my 20s for Sims 3 that I didn’t play it nearly as much but Sims 1 and 2 are so nostalgic for me. Sims 2 blew my mind when it was announced. I still remember freaking out about the commercial and watching it over and over again before I got it for Christmas as a kid. The update in content and graphics was such a jump at the time.” - Leanne M. “Sims 3 will always have a special place in my heart but ever since I started playing with 4 i could never go back... graphics and building tools are SO much better... I remember 11 year old me almost having a meltdown because I couldn't place some stairs... turns out the roof came through the walls somehow and was intersecting the stairs????” - Csila S. “2 is my first love, my bestie, my soul sister. 3 is close behind but doesn’t quiiiite make it because I can’t play it on my laptop, but it’s so much fun. For like a year every time I fire up Sims 4 I just stare at the main menu, maybe get halfway through making a sim and quit. Even with all the new updates and shit. It’s so meh.” - Rachel H. The general consensus... Whether you just started playing or are a veteran of the game we all play differently. Some of us prefer graphics over gameplay. One build mode over the other. Some of us just want our sims to look like actual people and not potatoes (looking at you Sims 3) At the end of the day, year after year we all continue to boot up our computers and play our comfort game. Whether it's minimal and straight to the point with Sims 1. Mystery and lore with Sims 2. Overheating our Pcs and driving around the world with no loading screens in Sims 3. Building realistic homes for our realistic looking sims with Sims 4. Whatever your flavor we all have 1 end goal in mind, Play with life! We pass the question onto you.Which Sims version is your favorite? Let us know! Have a juicy question you’d like to ask the community? Leave it in a comment below!

Scenarios...In the latest update the sims teams implemented “scenarios” Scenarios are goal-based stories within the game where a player’s choice impacts the outcome. There are many different outcomes to Scenarios and many different ways to achieve those outcomes. That’s right, there’s more than one way to complete a Scenario, just as in real life! You never know how the story will go. How you get there is up to you! The team will rotate out these scenarios so there is always a new goal to achieve. We asked the Sims community their opinions and whether they liked scenarios and this is what you all said… “They're not new to the kind of people who play often enough to be in Sims Facebook groups, but I think making challenges official is a great idea. And it means I won't have to keep track of things myself, which I'm terrible at. Honestly, the horrors of forgetting a tally in the hundred baby challenge still haunt me.” - Nicole W. “So I played the toddler one last night. It was a story pretty similar to my regular gameplay, so it was honestly easy? The money one and the love after heartbreak one are not really how I normally play, so I am interested to try those next. I am kind of curious to see which ones they add in the future! I have been super depressed and am now on a leave from work, so it is a good time for to get back into sims.” - Liz S. “I have shitty wifi and sims on console so my update still has…9 hrs lmao but I’m excited! I like having different options because I get bored pretty quickly.” - Kennedi W. “I think they’re a great way to support and inspire new players and people not integrated in the community” - Becca B. “I like them so far! I hope that they continue to update this to not only give us a new challenge but to also help people that maybe get overwhelmed when they try to make their own challenges in the game. I also love how quick you can just be like I want to play but I don't know what I want to play and click on a scenario” - Daya A. “Meh. Challenges aren't my thing, so adding them into the game officially isn't very interesting to me. I know many do like them though, so I can see how you'd be excited in that case. Two thoughts: A) Typical EA rushing out features before they're finished. Why exactly can you not use these with existing saves? And are they actually going to fix it so they can be done in existing saves or is this going to be like how they said they were going to add swimmable water to other worlds after Island Living? B ) Extremely funny that "too many toddlers" is...three. That is something that can happen in the course of normal gameplay and has happened to me several times. It seems really pointless as a challenge.” - Carla C. The general consensus While the structure of scenarios are nothing new to the sims game, (see challenges) it is a new way to do challenges with an in game tracked system! It gives simmers who don’t usually play with challenges a taste of what they are missing. While some simmers may feel this is not necessary, the general feel is, it's OK. Is it something that we needed? No. “Scenarios” have existed since the beginning of the sims community. Those who avoid challenges like a plague (me lol) won't be touching this new feature. All in all it seems like the sims team is actively looking at the community and adding those things we are doing ourselves into the game which is nice. But can yall listen and add cars please 😂 We pass the question onto you. How do YOU feel about scenarios? Let us know! Have a juicy question you’d like to ask the community? Challenges..An unofficial game mode usually made by other players. There are set rules and goals made that the player must achieve to complete said challenge. It's done by the honor system as the game doesn't recognize these rules as native to gameplay. Since the Sims 2 days simmers have created multiple challenges so we asked simmers like you, Do you play with challenges in your game? Why or why not!? Here are the results! “They'd be better if we could add the rules in game. Maybe even get alerts when we're about to break a rule. I'm low-key tired of having to look at three different windows just to make sure a sim can get married in a particular challenge.” - Melody R. “I think challenges are a great way to spice up game play or experience things you otherwise wouldn't in your typical play-style but I personally don't really play out challenges because all of the rules are constricting. I get that's what makes them challenging but I would rather play out my own storyline of a family trying to make it rich than following set guidelines in a Rags to Riches format - or see how many babies I can have with a regular family without turning it into a baby factory like 100-baby games.” - Tim D. “I hate them. I'm totally uninterested in following someone else's rules. I always find at least one of them arbitrary or nonsensical and just end up getting annoyed with challenges. “ - Carla C. “I get bored partway through especially if the challenge isn't especially difficult, just time consuming.” - Annika J “I did the asylum challenge and won the lotto literally the first day 😂 Right now I’m doing the decades challenge which has been fun. I tried doing the 100 baby one but it got too repetitive. I don’t completely follow the rules for each one tho. I’ll change things to match my play style. Or because I have adhd and don’t like blocks of text I just skim over the rules and miss a bunch of them lmao.” - Alyssa K. The general consensus Challenges aren't for everyone. For those of us that enjoy structure and are sticklers for rules they are your jam. With a game that's open world anything goes. That can easily get overwhelming and sometimes boring. Challenges are a way to spice up our game and have a goal to reach. Gives us a reason to want to stay up 1 more hour and all of a sudden it's 3am and we have no idea how we got here… For some challenges just aren't it. Rules shmules! Let me live my life how I want. Personally I have the attention span of a squirrel and cannot stay focused. Challenges are my kryptonite and I have never been able to finish one. I'm sure many simmers can relate! However you choose to play, structured or not, there is a challenge out there for all of us. From builders to CAS challenges to those of us that like killing off our sims. We don't judge here. This is a safe space! Now.. We pass the question onto you. Do you use play with challenges? Let us know! Have a juicy question you’d like to ask the community? Leave it in a comment below!
Mods..The alteration of the program code of a video game in order to make it operate in a manner different from its original version. Mods allow for a player to add visual or gameplay changes to their games. Mods are no secret among the Simmer community. We asked simmers like you, Do you mod your game? Why or why not!? Here are the results! The yes: “It’s makes gameplay more interesting and adaptable, fixes some annoyances, and offers more design customizations.” - Colleen M. “I can’t imagine playing without MCCC” - Lindsey R. “I mod because the reason I play the sims is to tell stories and it gives me more control and options.” - Cammy M. “I can’t play without mods. It makes the gameplay so much more interesting and adds so much stuff to do. Plus mods can fix some of the broken stuff that for some reason the people making the game can’t seem to fix.” - Emma L. The no: “I don't have the internet to be able to download, and constantly fix them. I recently got a gaming laptop so I would be open to it but i also don't want to add to the storage the sims already takes up.” - Lexi S. “No, because I don’t know how to” - Megan P. “There are some that would maybe be pretty useful but I enjoy the game as it is. It is missing some things I’d like and could mod but there is plenty it already has. Plus you have to wait for them to be fixed after all the updates and such it seems like a lot of work to keep up with. “ - Tonya P. “No. I feel like the game needs to stand on its own - even though it has short comings - but I'm stubborn and want to play the game as it was designed. I don't use mods or CC for this reason. Plus, I get all the DLC and I don't want to update my mods with every new release. I figure once the series ends and there is nothing new coming, I'll try out a few mods to enhance my gameplay but I'm happy waiting for the end of the series before that.” - Tim D. “Because I’m on console” - Amy K. The general consensus While adding mods adds a different level to gameplay it can also be an overwhelming experience. Most simmers seem to mod for the story progression aspect that the game lacks. While some feel if it's not already a part of the game then it shouldn't be changed. Another hurdle is the inability to mod in the console community. Whether you mod or not we all play with the same end goal, to unleash our imaginations! |
